Postgraduate studies

Hi, today I’m going to talk about a course that I would like to take in the future after my degree. I didn’t think about this because I always focused in goals in short terms; get my degree, be able to live alone, focused in other protects like music, etc. But, if I could think in some course or Magister after my degree I would say that a Magister in Social Neuroscience could be a great option, because the Program of Psychology in Universidad de Chile is focused in Social Sciences mostly, and I believe that Neuroscience it’s an area less explored, or that I didn’t exploited very well. In this program I would like to study about psychiatric drugs and their effects, the neuronal functioning of some basic psychological process like love, hate, depression, personality disorders, and how all this work in consideration of social context where we live. I would like to study in Chile, perhaps in Universidad Diego Portales, because they have a Magister in Social Neurosciences. But, the id...

My future job

Imagen
The kind of job that I like to have is as a musician playing my own songs and maybe completing this job as a musical producer. As you can imagine being a musician or artist isn’t profitable, unless you dedicate to pop music or styles with big audiences like  trap, reggaeton, electronic music, etc.   For this reason, and many others, like the fact that we are in Chile (extremely difficult to arise musically speaking) I believe that I would be a music producer to resolve my cost and to live moderately comfortable. I think this type of job would have two modalities: outdoor and indoor. On one side, being musician and play my songs or the band songs would be allowed to travel and work outdoors on tours or concerts. On the other hand, being a music producer is more an indoor work, because you have to mix and produce the projects that artists share with you and you have constantly to work with them to agree on how they want to sound. I would love to travel in this job, because...

My favorite band or singer

Imagen
Hi, I'm going to talk about Roger Waters. I’ve liked Pink Floyd for almost ten years. When I was 12 years old I started to listen  to rock music, and obviously, at that moment I knew the most popular rock and metal bands; Guns n roses, Iron maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Ac dc, etc. In that time when I listened to Pink Floyd, instantly this band touched me, mainly for the strength and depth of the instrumentals, and because of the depressive and furious voice of Roger Waters and the crystalline and depth voice of David Gilmour. But at that time, I didn’t pay attention to the lyrics. Maybe when I was 15 years old I started to read the lyrics and also I saw the movie; The Wall. And at this moment I realized that Pink Floyd was a band with a political content but the way to express this stuff are very intelligent but simple; a perfect combination. My favorite song is Welcome to machine because I loved the keyboards and synths of this song. I have ...

Pets

Imagen
Hello everyone, today I’m going to talk about my experience with pets. My experience with pets it’s basically it’s not so long. When I was 5 years old, my family wanted to sell or give away our dog Bobby, that was a mix between Siberian and mixed dog because he was ringworm, and to treat this disease, that was too expensive, my parents believed that Bobby would be in better hands in another family. Later, like we no longer live in a house, but in an apartment, my mom gives us a couple of “cotorras”, female and male, and I remember that they were very intelligent and sweet pets, but whit the time my sister and me noticed that it wasn’t healthy to cotorras be enclosed. Actually, we have two dogs; Ares and Tedy, and they are puppies. I think the best animals suited to be pets are cats because they are small and also their stools and urine are so small and it isn’t so smelly. Also, I think cats, are very flexible and aerobic (mostly) so they can be safe in any place because if they f...

Hi everyone, I’ll talk about the best concert I have ever been to. I have always been a big fan of music, especially rock, metal and electronic music, so I would say I have been in some concerts that marked me for life. The first concert that I was present was the tour of Guns n’ roses in 2010. In that concert, they promoted “Chinese Democracy” album and the show was in Movistar Arena.   Guns n roses is a hard rock/glam metal band formed in L.A, California in 1985. They separated in the middle of ’90s and Axl rose, vocalist and pianist of the band continued to work in solitary and at the same time, he appropriated the name of the band. Soon after that, some members of Guns n Roses formed a new band called Velvet Revolver. So basically, the concert I have been in 2010, was the concert of Guns n Roses, but with a single member of the old formation: Axl Rose. The music wasn’t the best because many songs of the album Chinese Democracy were played, and I wanted to listen ...

The last blog ;(

Hi everyone, I think this is the last time that we can read our blogs. To be honest, I’d say that the experience of the blogging activities has been very useful, because we have been able to learn stuffs related to British and North American culture. In other hand, some post have been really funny and interesting, like the post related to paranormal phenomena and related technology. The blog that I really enjoy reading and writing was about series and movies, because like I’m a fan of films, I really needed know which movie or series I was losing. Respect about the skills that I feel have developed in my writing, I think that vocabulary and semantics have been increased. In the future I would like include more feedback from teacher and classmates; for example doing more activities in pairs, oral interactions and maybe to debate with classmate about a topic proposed by teacher in his blog. Finally, would be interesting write about topics that aren’t related with our ...

Paranormal Phenomena

Hi, today I will tell you about paranormal phenomena. As teacher say in his post, life is boring so people created fantasy and mythology to make their lives more insteresting. But, I also believe   that are many events   in the world that happens without an explanation and for this reason human beings created histories to feel  the world is coherent and everything happens by an explanation. In my life, there are a few events that I can´t yet find an explanation for that, and one of them is a paranormal phenomena. This event was 7 years ago, and I thing that is very boring but is the only paranormal thing on I was into jj. In a night, when I was 15 years old aprox, my mom and my sister go out to the graduation of my older sister. So, there was   nobody home. The thing is that when I was on the verge of fall asleep, I started to hear a sound of a breath very noisy and loud, so I immediately woke up and though “Ohh, maybe they come back earlier and probably is t...

BLOG 8: A SUBJECT I ENJOY STUDYING THIS SEMESTER

Hi, I’m going to talk about one of my favourite subject of this semester of Psychology; Violence, Power and Law. Violence, Power and Law is a subject about Politics, legal Phycology, Sociology and Philosophy. The format of the class is discussions about texts and authors corresponding to each class. The teachers make us sitting in a circle and talk about the authors and explain our political stance with respect to the main contents. The bad thing about the class is the amount of work to each class. Sometimes time is not enough, so you couldn’t finished the readings completely. So, if you don’t read all the authors and works you don’t be able to talk or discuss with the group or the class, because you must be talk from a determinate epistemological posture. The main contents that we have seen in this subject are the relationship with the Legal System and the poverty, the globalization, the decadency of the Democracy, Racism, Classism, Feminism, and how all of this impact in the ...

Hi, Today I’m going to talk about Herbert Marcuse. Herbert Marcuse was a Jewish sociologist, philosopher, and political theorist born in German, on 1898.   He studied in Fritburgo University, with great authors like Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. Later, he wrote a thesis about Hegel and the historicity, but his mentor, Heidegger, didn't approve that. Because of the Nazi Regimen, he had to immigrate to Paris and finished his studies at Frankfurt University. As time goes on, he became a prominent figure in the field of Philosophy. In 1952 he started a career as a teacher of Philosophy and Politics in the Columbia University and later in Harvard University.   When he retires, he started to work at California University, where he won a lot of influence, at to the point to become in the group of 3M: Marx, Mao, and Marcuse. In 1955, based on studies about Freud and the “Uneasiness in culture “   he wrote “Eros and Civilization”, where he started to deplo...

BLOG 6: FAVOURITE MUSICIAN

Imagen
Hi, I'm going to tell you about one of my favorites musician in the field of music; Tool. Tool is a band of progressive metal, experimental rock and post-metal arising in 1990 in L. A.   I love this band because they mix so many genres like heavy metal, alternative metal, art rock, and others. This style is so particular and original, and I could say that which one of them are genius in their instruments. The drums, for example, are very unpredictable and furious, the guitar is a bit depressive and with a lot of anger, the singer is very expressive and had a voice very unique; a warm and clean voice but also can sound very rough. The bass maybe is the hearth of the band and this thing, in particular, attracted me into this band and genre. Finally and not less important is the political content that has their lyrics, and the artistic way that they have to express this idea. I start to know this band and like them when I was maybe 15 years old. During...

A PHOTOGRAPH

Imagen
Hi, I'm going to talk about one of the nominees for world press photo of the year named "Akashinga, the brave ones", that won the second place in the 2019 photo contest. The photo was taken by Brent Stirton. He is a photographer and regular contributor to National Geographic magazine. The photo shows a woman called Petronella Chigumbura, a member of the revolutionary unit called Akashinga. This group is a ranger force rooted as an "alternative conservation model". Akashinga received women that are coming from violent or disadvantaged contexts, so to empowering them, this group offer jobs and activities. Also, and not less important, Akashinga comprises helping local people to fight to the preservation of wildlife.  This photo was taken in 2018, 20th June, in Phundundu Wildlife Park (Zimbabwe). I can say that choose one picture was very hard because there are many photos surprising, captivating and beautiful but with no content, so I finally choose a p...

My favourite piece of technology

Imagen
A few years ago, I rarely used technology to enjoy my free time or use that as a tool of work. The idea of live everyday attached to cellphone or using applications all the time was a not good idea to me, because I wanted to live a life without the dependence to a objects or things that distract me of the real problems or the things that are important. But with the time, the stress and laziness become more, so I fall not completely, but largely in the dependence of technology; specifically, the TV. I should say that my favorite piece of technology is computer/laptop/notebook, but I choose TV, because I use laptops to watch series, movies most of the time, things that are more functions of the television. When I was 6 years old, my family got our first TV. Some uncle gave us this TV, that seems to be as a little box, where we could see 2 channels. In contrast, today we have a "modern" TV; a plasma. This TV had been around 5 years ago approximately and initially w...

How did I choose this program/career?

When I was five or six years old my dreams were to be a singer, dancer or a vet. In that moment I really loved animals and I felt very sensitive with animal suffering, so I wanted to help animals being a veterinarian. But as time goes by I started to influence in music, because my dad and mom made music together, not as a career but as a sort of part time job. So, in this musical context in a few times I acompane my mother in her shows, that wasn't big or with a good production but anyways I felt inspiration and admiration. So I started to like music as expression in all senses. For this reason, I also really loved dance because I felt that I could connect with mi body and my feelings while the music sounded. Long time before, when I did the PSU, I was really confused about what Program or career choose. I wanted study Psychiatry, Psychology, Music Production, Music Theory, Philosophy, and Chemical Industry. In secondary School I felt more scientist than humanist, but in the l...

My autobiography 2.0

Hi, I'm going to tell you a little more about me. I was born in Curico, in 1997. For these days I have lived with my family; dad, mom, and two siblings. When I was 6 years old, my mom and my two sibling came to Santiago, Chile. At that time, we lived with my uncles and cousins in La Florida, Santiago. Then, my mom and two siblings moved to an apartment very close of my uncles, also in La Florida. For these days me and my two siblings were going to a public school called Guardamarina Ernesto Riquelme, in the same commune. After that, my mom prefered change us to other school, because the quality education in that school wasn't very good. So, my two siblings and me moved to a Boston College, a subsidezed school in La Florida. In 5th grade, my sister and me change to Maria Auxiliadora school, also a subsidezed school, in the center of Santiago, in avda Matta. At first I felt very difficult the level of the education, but as time went by I was adapted. I went to that school ...

Is feminism for everyone?

For years be declared feminist has been a revolutionary act. But nowadays some of right-wing sectors have been appropriate of political struggle with a speech very elitist, white, and specially hypocritical. Being in the right side and being feminist is a huge contradiction because the bedrock of capitalism is the nature exploitation, the animals and humans reification and specially the exploitation of females bodys. Male chauvinism isn't only a capitalism issue, because in others economic systems patriarchy also has been existing. I think that liberal feminism has a lot of contradiction, because has been focus preferably in the rights of white and rich woman, supported exploitation systems with the slogan "my body, mi choice".  Obviously I believe that every woman has the right of choice about her own body, but also I believe that all choices should be taken with consciousness, and having clear the effect that hers choices generated in the society. For example, some sex...
